RV Organization & Storage Ideas

As any RVer knows, one of the challenges of traveling in any size RV or camper is keeping everything organized. It’s easy for things to get cluttered and disorganized when you’re on the road, so it’s important to be intentional about staying organized. In this blog post, we’ll share some tips and tricks for keeping your RV organized while you travel. Whether you’re a full-time RVer or just enjoy occasional trips in your RV, these tips will help you keep your space tidy and clutter-free. So let’s get started!

Table of Contents
  • Using Vertical Space
  • Storage Bins Are Your Friend
  • RV Kitchen Storage
  • RV Basement Storage
  • Dollar Tree RV Storage Ideas
  • BONUS: RV Organization Inspiration

Using Vertical Space

Making use of vertical space is an easy way to create more room in your RV. The walls in your RVs can hold more than just decorative touches! I use hooks and lightweight containers on my RV walls to stay organized and find room for our sunglasses, hats, maps, remotes, and other items that aren’t too heavy. Key hooks are perfect for scarves, jewelry, lanyards, and light sweaters. The bathroom walls are another great place for storage in your camper. We use shelves and baskets with suction cups in the shower to keep shampoo bottles, loofahs, and body wash on hand.

One often overlooked area for interior storage is your doors. I use over-the-door hooks in every room for towels and hanging organizers for clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, and so much more! These storage solutions come in every shape and size so you can choose the ones that work best for you.

If you can’t find the right solution browsing RV-specific products, simply think of your RV as one of those cute modular homes with loft space, and you’ll get tons of ideas to make the most of the vertical space in your camper.

Storage Bins Are Your Friend

One of the first things I did when we bought our new fifth wheel was to measure all my cabinets (they are so plentiful in fifth wheels) and purchase bins for all of them. The Container Store and Ikea are great places to buy storage bins in all sizes, but you can also find great ones at Amazon like these fabric bins I use in our closets. I also bought some woven ones from Ikea that add a decorative touch and look nice on top of my kitchen cabinets.

Storage bins of all shapes and sizes help keep things organized in your RV or camper.

RV Kitchen Storage

Campers are notorious for having very little kitchen and pantry storage. This is another great area where you can use the previously mentioned over-the-door hanging organizers. There are also so many great organizers that add additional space by stacking items in your cabinets. Just search for “small kitchen organizers” in Google or on Amazon, and you’re sure to find what you need to store more food and utensils in your small RV kitchen space.

RV Basement Storage

Finally, we all know that that the best storage in a motorhome or fifth wheel is under the living space  (aka RV basement). One of the most important things about the basement is that you don’t want things to be “out of sight and out of mind.” That means it is important to keep it organized and make sure everything you need is easily accessible. Stacy of You, Me, and the RV has some genius RV basement organization tips in the video for you.

Dollar Tree RV Storage Ideas

Most importantly, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to keep your small space organized. Watch this video for several clever Dollar Tree storage ideas for your camper. It’s a double win: saving money and staying organized!

BONUS: RV Organization Inspiration

So while things are a little better now, I can still use an RV Organization Intervention. I’m missing the homemaker gene. I didn’t do a good job organizing my big sticks & bricks home and I’m not doing much better with the tiny home on wheels.

Luckily a great book (with lots of pictures for the creatively challenged like me) just came out! It’s called Create Space From Thin Air: Ideas For Adding Storage To Your RV. This full-color, 36-page e-book will help you discover new potential storage space in your RV or tiny home! With over 75 color photos and 60+ ideas for storing and organizing, you cannot go wrong here.

The book includes:

If you are looking for potential storage space in your RV or tiny home, this book is for you. This full-color, 36-page e-book contains 75+ color photos and more than 60 RV storage ideas.

Enjoy a Bird’s Eye View of Texas Hill Country

Known for its beautiful displays of spring wildflowers, scenic vistas, the Hill Country is perhaps the best-loved region in Texas. But why just view it from the ground like everyone else, when there are two great ways to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Texas Hill Country? On a recent trip to the area, we climbed to the top of the ancient dome known as Enchanted Rock and soared on zip lines with Cypress Valley Canopy Tours.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Get a bird's eye view of the Texas Hill Country atop Enchanted Rock. The massive pink granite dome rises rises 425 feet above the base elevation of the park. Its high point is 1,825 feet above sea level, and the entire dome covers 640 acres.

The massive pink granite dome rises 425 feet above the base elevation of the park. Its high point is 1,825 feet above sea level, and the entire dome covers 640 acres. Climbing the rock is like climbing the stairs of a 30- or 40-story building, but you can’t beat the views!

Get a bird's eye view of the Texas Hill Country atop Enchanted Rock. The massive pink granite dome rises rises 425 feet above the base elevation of the park. Its high point is 1,825 feet above sea level, and the entire dome covers 640 acres.

There is actually more than one dome in the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Others include Little Dome and Turkey Peak. The domes are a small and visible part of a huge underground area of granite, called a batholith. The Enchanted Rock Batholith stretches 62 square miles; most of it is underground.

You can easily spend a day (or more) at Enchanted Rock. For starters, there are nearly 11 miles of hiking trails to explore. Take a virtual tour with their Interactive Trails Map. You can also geocache, picnic, rock climb, and stargaze.  And if you want to stay awhile, you can even camp.

Cypress Valley Canopy Tours

Zip Line Cypress Valley Canopy Tours

If you’re looking for a new way to experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, Cypress Valley Canopy Tours is for you! This tour consists of a series of 5 zip lines that traverse from tree to tree with 2 sky bridges added into the mix. Named for the old-growth cypress trees, some over 100 years old, Cypress Valley offers the exhilaration of flying just 30 miles west of downtown Austin, Texas.

Safety First

Don’t worry if you’ve never zip-lined before, every participant is outfitted with safety gear including a harness, helmet, and gloves. After your gear is checked for fit and function, you’ll head over to ground school to learn the course rules, hand signals, and techniques. Plenty of time is spent on ensuring everyone knows how to safely stop at the end of each zip line. This was my biggest concern. I’m not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of smashing into a tree at 35 MPH! Our patient guides made sure every single one of us took a turn practicing on a small zip line just a few feet off the ground to gain confidence before beginning the course.

Zip Line Adventure

Most of Cypress Valley is a working farm and ranch owned by a family that is dedicated to conservation and natural preservation. The guides took time to share their knowledge of the local flora and fauna as we enjoyed the natural beauty of the ravine and surrounding area.

The first platform begins above a lake, and offers a short and easy flight into the valley. After that first zip, you’ll traverse the first sky bridge and experience nature as you never have before. By this time, you should feel confident enough to continue the course zipping over forty feet in the air, across lines that span up to 350 feet.

Zip Line Cypress Valley Canopy Tours

Each zip line has something to offer: the fastest, the longest, one that goes between two tall trees. The last zip even has two lines so you can race one of your friends. After about an hour and half of high flying fun, the tour concludes with a final adventure: rappelling off the last platform.

Fuel Your Fun

Don’t forget to fuel up before and after your adventures at one of our favorite restaurants in Fredericksburg.
