Harper’s Ferry KOA (Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia)

Located adjacent to the Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park, this KOA is a great destination location. Whether you spend your days exploring the local area or enjoying the campground’s amenities, you’re sure to have a good time.

Watch the video below to see a tour of the Harper’s Ferry KOA.

Campsites

Views of three different campsites at Harper's Ferry KOA campground in West Virginia

One thing we love about KOA campgrounds is the variety of sites to choose from. However, the sites can also be a source of disappointment if you don’t book the right one for you and your preferences. Most of the complaints we saw on this particular campground were that the sites were too small. And, there are some very small sites. But, there are also big-rig friendly sites and everything in between. The important thing is to accurately enter the size of your RV when making your reservation and read the description for the site type that you are selecting. We had a small site that was just large enough for our 30′ fifth wheel and it met our needs. However, there were a lot of sites in the back of the campground that had much more space between sites that may be a better option for larger groups.

In addition to RV sites, they also have a very large tent site section, as well as cabins. The cabins also have a few different options from primitive with sleeping space, but no water to deluxe cabins with bathrooms and kitchenettes.

Campground Amenities

Large olympic sized swimming pool at the Harper's Ferry KOA Campground in West Virginia

There was a lot going on at the Harper’s Ferry KOA and we want to return with your grandson next summer. They had a huge pool and playground; an 18-hole miniature golf course; an indoor recreation hall with a movie theater, a basketball court, a game room, and a snack bar; and a big dog park.

In addition to the large camp store, they also had a separate store named Grapes & Grinds which sold specialty coffee drinks, local wine, and crafts.

Local Area

Restored buildings in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

The local draw to this campground is in the name: Harper’s Ferry. Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park is a must-see for anyone interested in American history. Located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, Harper’s Ferry was the site of John Brown’s raid on the Armory in 1859. This event played a significant role in the lead-up to the Civil War, and today, the park is home to a number of historical buildings and exhibits. Visitors can stroll through the quaint town and hike along the scenic rivers or the famous Appalachian Trail. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a beautiful place to spend an afternoon, Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park is definitely worth a visit.
